We’re launching our 2019 Fall Prints today, and I’m so excited to share these with you! These prints will be available on my website. Today I’m sharing about the different print collections and the story behind making them.
A couple of years ago, I struggled with depression and wrote a poem about it:
I once stared at a white wall for eight hours
Boiling thoughts to reduce them
Writing poetry in my head
I think I saw him come in
to place a glass of water by the bed
“Come have something to eat”
My own voice was foreign
Like my needs were strangers passing through
I wanted death
Fall Prints Collection: Hope Series
The Fall Prints Collection for 2019 is called “Hope”. It represents so much affirmations that I spoke over myself in this time. Each piece is a truth or a verse that I chose to cling to, and my hope is that you or someone you know would feel encouraged by it too. I created these as concepts for fighting life’s battles, whether that is mental health or a season in the desert.
The following pieces are black on white, which is to enhance the simplicity of these truths. Though they are simple (and spoken easily), I’ve found they are sometimes the hardest things to believe:
“More than conquerors” comes from the verse in Romans 8:37, where Paul rallies Christians into being confident in our position in Christ and emphasizes that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God.
“This is How I Fight My Battles” is inspired by the song, but also emphasizes the idea that our weapons are not to exercise more, or eat more, or “be” more, but that our weapons are the strength in God. Like the psalmist, we can pour out all of our emotions before Him, and He will always be able to hold them. There is no amount of anger or sadness that God cannot meet.
The California series are minimalist illustrations of pine, poppy, and palm trees. The Pine is a nod to Northern California, the Poppy is the state flower, and the palm trees are idyllic of Southern California. This series comes in two options: grey and maroon!
